Who calls the shots in a company? Manager or Leader? Who is responsible for an organisation’s success and who has the power to do so at all? And what’s the difference between manager and leader? Ancient questions in terms of leadership development and the answers in the past have been very different. Today the general opinion is that manager and leader are no longer descriptions of positions inside a company but rather different approaches when it comes to leadership tasks. Do you know to which one you tend to? Watch yourself in the upcoming week and do the self-check.

It’s not the title on the business card which states if you are a manager or a leader. In fact, it’s the way you meet your employees, the way how you act inside the system of your company and the way you face problems and challenges in your working life. Therefore, there is no better or worse, no important or not important – both roles have the power to support a company’s success and to influence the working atmosphere.

Of course, there are countless types and occurrences of both roles. For some people the differentiation might be hard and in some of you characteristics from both sides may appear in kind of a balance. The following self-check should give you some impulses for self-reflexion to find out which style you prefer and – in an ideal case – to understand the other one a little bit better to support the co-working in your company.

Sef-check: Manager or leader?

For the self-check read both statements of each line below and tick off the one which is suitable for you personally. If both statements are a little bit true or both aren’t really true at all just tick off the one to which you tend. The number of checks on each side shows your preferred style.
